Using Yahoo Answers to Direct Traffic to Your Site

As a site owner, you can position yourself as an expert in your field on Yahoo Answers and use that to drive traffic to your site. Simply choose a category that is relevant to your business or site and check that category regularly for questions that you can answer. By answering these questions and adding a link to informative content on your site, you can build your reputation in that field AND increase traffic to your site.

Matt McGee of Small Business SEM is one site owner who has worked the social marketing angle of Yahoo Answers to his advantage. McGee says he has seen success from this with only a couple visits per week, "And if I just spend one hour answering questions in the Small Business category (or elsewhere when it’s appropriate), I’m guaranteeing myself a traffic bump over the following several days. It never fails."

Search Engine Journal's Loren Baker wrote a great post about Marketing Your Site in Yahoo Answers. Be sure to check out Baker's quick rundown of how best to use Yahoo Answers, and start sharing your knowledge with others today!

The Wonderful World of Honey Pots!

When you follow a process it's sometimes hard to remember to think creatively. That's why Pandia's post on using honey pots and sleepers to get higher search engine rankings really snapped me out my process-induced coma.

According to Pandia, successful search engine marketing strategies require the use of a wide variety of web pages. Which made me realize: all this focus on article syndication for linking purposes and driving traffic to our client's websites is great, but there are other things we can do too.

Why not talk to clients about all-in-one resource pages for their site? Search engines list good content that helps searchers find good quality information. No matter what industry you’re in, from software solutions to industrial parts, you can gather important links to the best industry-related sources of information and attract not only in-bound links but visitors too!

Does your website have a resource page like this? Seen any good honey pots lately?? Please share! :)

Don't overlook Firefox!

If your site doesn't work in Firefox, it may be affecting a much larger portion of your visitors than you might think. According to a recent post on SearchEngineLowDown.com, 31% of web users last month used Firefox.

In the past, we've assumed that Firefox users made up around 10% of web users, but the numbers from January indicate that number is on the rise. Soon Firefox users could make up a third or more of web traffic, which means it's more important than ever to keep Firefox in mind when developing your website.
