I found a great blog post by SEOmoz owner and operator Rand Fishkin called "How Did You Learn SEO?"
Since SEO training is largely non-existent in 4-year universities and colleges, search marketing experts learn the ins and outs of the industry through blogs and on-the-jog training. That's probably a good thing considering the fact that SEO is a moving target.
