Last Call for Google Answers

Yesterday on the Official Google Blog, two software engineers bid farewell to their first Google project ever, Google Answers. Although existing Qs and As will still be available, Google Answers will stop taking new questions later this week and new Answers to questions by the end of the year.

The answers they seem to provide are more than worth the few dollars it costs to use the service, though I'm not really sure what Google got out of it. Seems like a lot of work for just a few bucks. Take this Q and A for instance about the Environmental Costs and Benefits of Replacing Old and Inefficient Things. Or this Q and A about the Collapse of the Comic Book Market. Pretty cool stuff.

But a lot of this information can be found just by going to Wikipedia?? In fact, Google Answers seem to get a lot of their information straight from Wikipedia, often listing it as a reference in their research. I still recommmend at least poking around for some tid bits. And if you have anything you've been pondering, now's your last chance for Google Answers!
