Sprint Now Offering MSN Search Access on its Mobile Phones
Mobile phone and wireless provider Sprint Nextel has announced that will begin offering Microsoft’s Windows Live search engine on all of its mobile phones. The agreement between Sprint and Microsoft comes in an effort by both companies to become strong competitors in the rapidly expanding mobile Internet search market.
All Sprint and Nextel mobile customers will find the Windows Live search bar at the top of the main menu screen on their Sprint/Nextel mobile phone. Available at no additional cost to users, Sprint customers will now be able to instantly access all the days news, sports scores, weather conditions, ringtones, restaurants, hotels, movie show times and more in just seconds from anywhere in the country. The engine will also offer an innovative new mapping feature.
Advertisements placed alongside the Windows Live search results will generate revenue from the mobile search offerings that will be shared by both Sprint and Microsoft. The two companies are also reportedly working together to develop and introduce new mobile phone Internet search services that will be introduced in the near future.
Both Google and Yahoo are also reportedly in talks with other U.S. mobile phone service providers in hopes of offering similar ad-supported services to wireless customers in the mobile search market, which is expected to reach the staggering one billion unit mark by the end of this year.
