Google To Help Optimize Landing Pages
I receive an IM from Frank Reed, Account Executive at Fortune Interactive, asking me what I thought of Google new landing page beta testing tool? He sent me an article from MediaPostPublications that discuss how Google is going to help adwords advertisers optimize their landing pages. I read the article and the most amazing thing to me is not the tool itself, but Google's initiative to create it.
According to the article:
Google Wednesday began a public test of a new tool aimed at helping paid search marketers increase conversion rates by testing multiple configurations of the same page.
The tool, Google Website Optimizer, allows site owners to test different headlines, copy and images on sites to evaluate which combinations give the most conversions as represented by sales, signups or other actions.
A few months ago, Clickz, asked me to speak about Google’s addition of adding landing page relevancy to the adwords ranking algorithm. I stated “The changes Google has implemented so far, and continues to implement, are things that advertisers should be doing anyway: use targeted keywords, [run] relevant ads with a good call to action, and link to a well written, relevant landing page.”
It appears more people are listening to this advice, but they need help optimizing their pages. Google is testing a way to help their adwords customers. Why would they do this? I feel it is because they realized it is a win win situation for them, their adwords advertisers, and people using Google to search for products and services. If the landing pages are optimized as I mentioned above, the searcher will be more likely to find the exact product or service they are looking for (which makes the searcher happy), the searcher will be more likely to buy (which makes the adwords advertiser happy) and the adwords advertiser is more likely to continue to use adwords (which makes Google happy).
What's next Google, a customer is going to sign up for Adwords, fill out an indepth profile form and the adwords interface will automatically creat their account with suggested keywords, landing pages, and cost per clicks? Hmmmmm........
